Attenborough’s Saturday 1st XI successfully retained the Popkess Cup trophy with a hard fought 20 runs victory over West Bridgfordians CC at Gotham, to complete the second part of a remarkable season-long treble. Batting first, ’Boro struggled early in wet conditions but eventually took their total to a respectable 133 for 8, thanks largely to a man-of-the-match winning 51 from Martin Shoemaker. The opposition were reduced to 49 for 8 in repsonse, wickets in the process for Martin Rayner, Dominic Harvey, Andy Simkiss and Chris Allcoat. A late partnership of 62 heightened the tension though and a tight finish was on the cards until Arjun Singh and veteran Mick Aplin nabbed the last two victims of the match to ensure another trophy for the Squirrels.
