ATTENBOROUGH CRICKET CLUB

Youth Section Newsletter

March 2008

The summer is fast approaching and I am sure you are all looking forward to the new cricket season as enthusiastically as we are.  I hope we are blessed with far better weather this year and we can get out there and play lots of quality cricket.

The junior section is going from strength to strength with lots of new faces joining us in the closed season and we look forward to meeting you all during the coming weeks.

We would like to take this opportunity to update you with our forthcoming junior schedule.

Registration Evening

This year the registration evening will held on Monday 21st April 2008 from 6.30pm at The Strand.

We hope to make the event a great social occasion.  There will be a BBQ and full bar facilities throughout so don’t have any tea before you arrive!  Juniors will be entertained with a game of rounders cricket whilst parents complete the registration procedure.

We will have a raffle of a junior bat as well as many other great prizes.

It will be a good opportunity to meet all the club coaches as well as our new club overseas player Craig Woods who has joined us from the South African side the Dolphins (the same club as test stars Shaun Pollock and Lance Klusener).

Craig will be getting involved in Monday and Wednesday junior coaching sessions this season.

During the evening we will be launching our exciting new Attenborough Kwik Cricket shirt that will be available to buy on the night at a very reasonable price. Why not be one of the first junior members to wear one for training night?  Attenborough’s kit suppliers Custom Cricket will also be presenting the latest personalised clothing and equipment available for order via their website:  customcricket.co.uk

Why not bring down any out-grown cricket gear and we will facilitate the sale of unwanted items on a bring and buy basis. You may well pick up a bargain yourself!

The registration form is attached for you to complete prior to arrival, which should help expedite the process greatly. Junior membership remains at only £20 for the year.  With no match or training subs we are sure you will agree this offers unrivalled value for money. Cash and cheques are accepted on the night payable to Attenborough Cricket Club.

The deadline for junior registration is the 1st of June, if you are unable to make the registration evening please contact either of us to make alternative arrangements.

Please note Richard’s new e-mail address:  richard-henson@sky.com

Indoor Training

The indoor coaching sessions on a Friday evening have proven a great success and this has shown in the growing attendance figures.  Many thanks to all the junior members who have worked so hard during the closed season and have been a credit to the club.

A superb evening was had when Nottinghamshire Cricket Club stars Samit Patel and Mathew Wood joined us for a recent session, they proved a real hit with juniors. We will post some photos on the website and around the clubhouse for you to enjoy.

Competition

Attenborough has strong links with Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club.  All juniors are encouraged to join the Junior Outlaws and support our local team.  Nottinghamshire have kindly donated a family match ticket, which we are giving away to the winner of our first junior competition.  All you need to do to win is answer the following question:

Who was Nottinghamshire’s leading first class run scorer in the 2007 season?

Simply email your answer and name to Richard Henson at  richard-henson@sky.com

The lucky winner will be drawn at random and hopefully be at the registration night to receive their prize.  Good luck!

We look forward to meeting you at the registration evening and hope 2008 will be a successful and enjoyable season for all.  As always if you have any question please do not hesitate to contact us.

Many thanks
