Youth Section Newsletter
YOUTH SECTION 2009 NEWSLETTER
I hope you are all well and as eager for the start of
the new cricket season as I am. 2009 at Attenborough will be a great year for the
club. Junior membership is at an all time high with more cricketing opportunities for all age groups, the adult first team start
their first season at the pinnacle of amateur cricket in the Nottingham Premier League and the 20/20 World Cup finals are being
staged at Trent Bridge, roll on summer!
First and foremost I want pass on my thanks to Martin Prentice who has been a real support to me over the last couple of years. Martin is retiring from his position as joint director of youth cricket but will still remain actively involved in the youth section.
Winter Training
Our hugely popular winter indoor training sessions
continue on Friday evenings at
I have some great photos of Notts cricketers Mark
Footitt and Alex Hales who joined our Friday training session recently, they will soon be uploaded onto our website. Both Mark and
Alex wanted me to pass on that they were incredibly impressed at the standard of our juniors and were sure there were several
stars of the future amongst our numbers.
I have four extra places for any year 4-5 Kwik Cricketers who wish to join us at our 6-7pm session, any parents interested should
contacted me for further details.
The final session will be Friday 17th April prior to the start of outdoor training.
Registration Evening
Registration evening will be on Friday
24th April commencing at 6pm at the
The Junior membership fee for 2009 will be £30. This
is the first rise in several years and still represents genuine value for money as we are the only club I know who do not charge
for matches or outdoor training.
Parents who receive income support, income- based
jobseekers allowance, working tax credit (but not child tax credit), disabled persons tax credit may contact me in confidence to
discuss financial assistance.
Please be aware that no junior will be allowed to
take part in either training or matches without a completed registration form as we must have full details of medical requirements
and emergency contacts. I am sure you will all support us with this.
I have attached a registration form and urge all
parents / Guardians to complete this electronically and print off a signed copy to bring with them on the evening. This will help
us to greatly speed the process. Please ensure you include a current email address or you will miss out on all the future news and
updates from the club. Cash is accepted and cheques should be made payable to Attenborough Cricket Club.
There will be full bar facilities and our catering team will be lighting the first BBQ of the season so don’t have any tea. The junior cricketers will be entertained by our coaches throughout the process with fun and games and I hope many of you will make an evening of it.

It is my intention to arrange some friendly cricket
fixtures for juniors who are not selected for League teams.
Presentation Evening
Our presentation evening will be held on Friday 4th September at The Strand.
I hope this will be a great opportunity to get together and reflect over another successful season. Further details to follow.
Social and Fundraising
2009 is the first year we have a dedicated junior social / fundraising section ably headed by Bernadette Ahluwalia and her team of helpers. We are already planning several junior section events throughout the year. Bernadette will be releasing the inaugural newsletter shortly so watch this space! I know they are busy collecting the Tesco Vouchers for Schools and Clubs – please bring along any you may have.
Want to help
out?
We are always on the look out for more help,
especially with the running of the Kwik Cricket. Training sessions are only as good as the coaches and helpers involved. We would welcome any parent/guardian who wishes to assist, knowledge of cricket is not
necessary. If you are interested can you please contact me or your child’s respective
team manager.
And finally...
Attenborough Youth pride themselves on their junior
members and the way they behave both at training and during matches against other clubs.
We strongly encourage our junior members to wear cricket clothing whilst training and representing Attenborough CC and we
hope parents will support us on this. It must also be noted that youth players
must be in possession of a protective guard (box) whilst playing hard ball in both the nets and
matches.
I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible in the coming weeks. Please do not hesitate to contact me regarding any aspect of junior cricket.
Richard Henson
Director of Youth Cricket
